Lloyd H. Nuss, 81, of Readlyn, died peacefully on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at the Tripoli Nursing & Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek with Rev. Sandra Burroughs officiating. Interment will be at the Church Cemetery with military rites provided by Wayne Teisinger Post #5661, V.F.W. of Readlyn. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. The family suggests that memorials be made in his name to St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek or Tripoli Nursing & Rehab Center.
Lloyd Henry Nuss, son of Alvin and Meta Schneider Nuss, was born October 4, 1931, near Sumner in rural Bremer County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek of rural Sumner. He graduated from Oran High School in 1948, and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. On October 23, 1955, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Kappmeyer at what is now St. John’s United Church of Christ-Siegel of rural Waverly. Lloyd and his wife farmed in Bremer County south of Sumner for many years prior to retiring and moving into Readlyn. Lloyd drove school bus for over twenty-five years for the Wapsie Valley Schools and particularly enjoyed driving the football team on several of their championship seasons. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek where he served as a trustee and deacon. He served on the Bremer County Fair Board for sixteen years, served on the Farm Service Board in New Hampton, and was a member of the V.F.W. in Readlyn and Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion of Sumner.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Tripoli; three sons, Gary Nuss of Nevada, Galen (Kim) Nuss of Readlyn and Gene Nuss of Guttenberg; two daughters, Glenda (Bob) Eubanks of Solon and Gail Hart of Augusta, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) McGinn, Justin Waskow, Cameron Eubanks, Spencer (Liz) Eubanks, Jessica (Russ) Novak Jerrid Nuss, Kelly Hart and Christie Hart; one great granddaughter, Kaylen Gealow; and two sisters, LaDonna (Wayne) Mohlis of Sumner and Marlene (Bob) Tewes of Jackson, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
